The origin of MowGen
After Hurricane Ian crossed central Florida in September 2022, neighborhoods around Lake Wales were left without utility power. Homeowners pulled portable generators out of storage—only to discover that many would not run.
Neighbors began bringing their generators to inventor Anthony Giunta, who had experience with small engines. The pattern was obvious: some generators had sat unused for years, and stale fuel had damaged or fouled their carburetors.
At the same time, something else stood out. Riding mowers throughout the neighborhood were running—cutting grass, moving debris, and helping with cleanup. Those engines were used regularly and maintained routinely.
“Why maintain another engine just for emergencies when there's already a reliable engine sitting in the garage?”
That observation became the idea behind MowGen: remove the mower deck, install a purpose-built generator in its place, and turn a frequently used riding mower into a highly mobile source of electrical power.

MowGen is conceived as a self-contained generator unit that uses the mower's existing engine, belt/pulley drive, mounting points and throttle controls.
Use the mower's existing deck-release and mounting system.

Why MowGen
MowGen addresses the two weaknesses that became obvious after Hurricane Ian: generator reliability and generator mobility.

It relies on a mower engine that is typically used and maintained far more frequently than a standby portable generator.
Take saws, drills, hedge trimmers and other electrical tools to the job without replacing perfectly good equipment with an entire battery ecosystem.
The concept includes 120/240V output capability for appliances and connection to properly configured home or business electrical systems.

Designed around the mower
The MowGen concept is intentionally shaped around the space normally occupied by a mower deck. Product drawings show a low-profile enclosure, double-sided outlet access, a control center, and swivel wheels for maneuvering the unit when it is removed from the mower.

Inventor
MowGen began with a practical observation during a real emergency and evolved into a purpose-built power-generation concept designed around equipment homeowners already use.
